Corrie fans fume at Leanne Battersby as she takes Institute ‘one step too far’
Coronation Street viewers were left fuming with Leanne Battersby during Monday night's visit to Weatherfield as she took her Institute obsession 'one step too far'
Coronation Street fans are reeling with anger at Leanne Battersby’s response to the news of Toyah Habeeb’s devastating cancer diagnosis. Recently, Toyah (played by Georgia Taylor) discovered a mass on one of her ovaries leading to more diagnostic tests.
During Monday’s episode (22nd July), Toyah’s worst fears were confirmed when she received her medical results.
Given Leanne Battersby’s (Jane Danson) current fixation with The Institute, a reluctant Toyah opted to attend the hospital appointment by herself, fearing that her sister might resort to reality encoding for support.
While anxiously waiting at the hospital, her brother-in-law Nick (Ben Price) arrived to lend some much-needed support.
During the consultation, it was disclosed that Toyah had germ-cell ovarian cancer which would necessitate surgery to extract the tumour and possibly chemotherapy treatment as well.
Upon returning home, a distressed Toyah shared the grim diagnosis with Leanne, who was visibly shaken by the news, reports the Express.
However, as the shock subsided, Toyah was stunned to hear Leanne suggest that “bad energy” might have led to her sister’s cancer and proposed to enlist Rowan (Emrhys Cooper) to figure out how The Institute could assist her.
This brought about a heated altercation between Leanne and Nick which culminated in an overheated Toyah pleading for them to stop before retreating to her bedroom.
After much contemplation, Toyah firmly declared to Nick and Leanne her desire to face her treatment alone. “I can [do this alone] and I will,” she asserted.
Viewers were absolutely fuming with Leanne’s reaction to Toyah’s heartbreaking diagnosis, slamming her for being too wrapped up in her Institute craze.
One frustrated fan posted on X: “Leanne your sister needs you right now! Stop involving the institute all the damn time! #Corrie.”
Another vented: “I’m sick and tired of Leanne and that Institute. #corrie”, while someone else remarked: “Oh Leanne you silly cow. Can you not support your sister for 5 minutes without bringing up the institute #Corrie.”
Someone else chimed in with: “See how the institute can help”…shut up Leanne…”, and tacked on an angry face emoji for good measure.”
“Leanne, enough about the bleedin’ institute, all your sunshine and rainbows ain’t gonna cure Toyah’s cancer #corrie”, another implored.
