Corrie fans warn ‘don’t you dare’ as they fear fan-favourite will be killed off
Corrie's Roy Cropper has been in prison waiting to stand trial for the murder of Lauren Bolton since the start of the year and it looks like things are only going to get worse
Coronation Street fans are worried that a fan-favourite character will be killed off.
The ITV soap has hinted at a grim end for Weatherfield icon Roy Cropper, who is currently cooped up in jail and facing trial for the murder of missing teen Lauren Bolton. But it seems if he does get bumped by bosses, there will be uproar from viewers.
Lauren went missing from the streets of Weatherfield on February 23 after getting fired from her job at Roy’s Rolls – and she hasn’t been seen since. Before her disappearance, the show gave us a glimpse of her receiving a final pay packet from cafè owner Roy and an enigmatic visit from someone else.
In the episode that aired on Wednesday (May 29), Roy’s new jailbird mate Roscoe attempts to coax him into the library as part of a dastardly scheme to off him, orchestrated by nasty far-right gang leader Griff.
The two jailbirds chat about the plot of getting rid of the cafè owner, with an oblivious Roy asking Roscoe: “Why are you so keen to get me to the library?” Suspense ahead of the episode airing saw a teaser clip shared to Instagram clip that was ominously titled: “Is time running out for poor Roy?”
Shivers were sent down the spines of fans who were concerned that it could be a clue that Roy could meet a grisly end. One online user fumed: “DON’T U DARE CORRIE. DON’T U EVEN THINK ABOUT IT,” while another added: “Not our Roy,” reports the Manchester Evening News.
A third exclaimed: “Gosh Roy doesn’t deserve this,” and a distressed fan added: “Don’t you dare kill our lovely Roy!” Another penned: “They better not kill Roy off.”
Meanwhile, ITV producers continued to toy with viewers on Wednesday’s episode, when the soap tied up on a cliff hanger with Roy in a dire situation. His enemy Griff was present in his cell with him as the camera honed in on a blade in his hand.
This week, Corrie had fans glued to their screens every night, dishing out the drama from different perspectives, all leading to the big reveal of what really happened to Lauren Bolton and Roy’s nightmare stint behind bars also reaching boiling point.
Nathan Curtis, Weatherfield’s resident creep, is also on the police radar thanks to Sarah’s unwavering determination to protect Bethany from her vile ex. With Bethany considering a great escape from the cobbles, Sarah’s hell-bent on proving Nathan’s link to Lauren’s vanishing act.
Carla and Bobby are in trouble too, accused of messing with justice to save Roy. But DS Swain’s got her eye on Nathan as well, and the case against him is only proves to be getting stronger.
