Corrie fans ‘work out’ identity of Roy’s prison cellmate and sinister link to resident
Coronation Street viewers were introduced to an old friend of Stu Carpenter as he tried to befriend his new cellmate, but fans fear he has ulterior motives for the café owner
Coronation Street fans are convinced that newcomer Roscoe may have a sinister plan for beloved businessman Roy Cropper after exposing his link to another cobbles resident.
During Wednesday’s (May 22) instalment of the ITV soap, Roscoe made a dramatic entrance as he sauntered into Roy’s prison cell, claiming to be a friend. After the TV favourite was wrongfully imprisoned for Lauren Bolton’s murder, he has kept to himself and stayed secluded in his cell.
It’s fair to say the fan-favourite felt intimidated by Roscoe as he demanded the thug leave immediately. But the criminal insisted that they had a mutual friend and he was there to support him, at someone else’s request.
Roscoe informed Roy that he was an old mate of Roy’s neighbour, Stu Carpenter, and that Stu had asked him to keep an eye on Roy while in prison. Roy was moved by this gesture and expressed his gratitude to Stu, who confirmed Roscoe’s account was accurate.
While some viewers were delighted to see that Roy had a companion in prison, others questioned the authenticity of the newcomer. Some fans couldn’t help but wonder if there was an ulterior motive behind his sudden interest in Roy, reports the Mirror.
After watching the tense scenes hit the airwaves, viewers flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their suspicions online. Some fans speculated that he could be secretly linked to former villain Griff, who is set to return this week.
Griff, a member of a far-right extremist group, is expected to target Roy in prison over Lauren’s apparent murder, given his friendship with Lauren’s father. Fans are buzzing with theories about Roscoe’s true intentions, especially after his odd behaviour around Roy.
One eagle-eyed fan wrote: “Why didn’t Roscoe introduce himself as Stu’s old cell mate from the off, rather than all this faff? I smell a rat.” Another puzzled viewer pondered: “Why is this bloke so determined to be Roy’s new best friend? ” while another chimed in with: “I don’t think Roy’s cellmate Roscoe is all he seems.”
Suspicion continued to mount as one fan speculated: “Griff getting to Roy by the looks,” and yet another was convinced: “He’s one of Griff’s gang, isn’t he?” It comes after viewers shared their fears that the Coronation Street stalwart could be killed off in emotional scenes next week.
Loyal fans will have been full of excitement this week in the build up to the dramatic scenes set to unfold next week which will finally expose the truth about what happened to Lauren. Now, viewers gave spotted a major “clue” that it could mean the end for Roy after spoilers have revealed he is told to say his last words by far right maniac Griff Reynolds, who sneaks into Roy’s cell with a knife.
A new trailer for the ITV soap has dropped, teasing what is certain to be a messy week on the ITV cobbles. In the short clip, Lauren can be seen shouting for help in her flat, before a gloved hand comes to cover her mouth – and muffle her screams. Griff threatens to “put Roy out of his misery” in a shocking scene.
But there’s one aspect of the new trailer that has fans certain it’s the end for Roy – the classical music playing in the background. One fan said it’s the same piece Roy’s wife Hayley died to after her cancer battle, writing on Instagram: “The music in this trailer is the piece Hayley died to, IF ROY DIES I SWEAR!”
Someone else posted: “Wait this is the same song Roy played for Hayley when she died… please nooooo.” The piece of music used in the background of both clips is Ralph Vaughan Willias’ The Lark Ascending, which originally played on a CD for Hayley when she drank her lethal cocktail of medicine to end her pain.
It was his late wife’s favourite piece – and fans think it could have a chilling connection to what happens next with Roy.
