Corrie legend, 73, ‘set to become oldest serial killer on TV’ as she joins rival soap
Former Coronation Street star Sherrie Hewson has joined Hollyoaks as Patrick Blake's mother Martha and she will reportedly become the oldest ever soap serial killer
Sherrie Hewson has joined Hollyoaks and will reportedly become the oldest serial killer in soap history.
The 73 year old actress, known for her role as Maureen Holdsworth in Coronation Street and also had a stint on Emmerdale, plays Martha Blake, the estranged mother of Patrick Blake in the Channel 4 soap. A source told The Sun: “Hollyoaks is at its best when there’s a major villain on the loose and Martha is going to top them all.”
Sherrie’s character is expected to start her killing spree after the soap’s big September relaunch, with 20 cast members being axed in the coming months.
“Obviously Sherrie is over the moon to play such an out-there character. She can’t wait to get her hands dirty with the blood of characters”, an insider revealed.
Upon the announcement of her Hollyoaks role, the Loose Women star expressed her excitement about her new character, saying: “It’s been a rollercoaster joining Hollyoaks! The character is just wonderful to play.”
“Everyone is so lovely, such a great atmosphere to work in and so welcoming. We laugh a lot, what more could you ask for? “, reports the Express.
Sherrie will be sharing the screen with Jeremy Sheffield, who is making a comeback to Chester eight years after his character Patrick Blake was killed off. Now, the 58 year old actor is portraying Patrick’s twin brother Jez, with Martha being their mother.
In 2016, Patrick was murdered by his granddaughter Nico Blake. With Jez’s sudden appearance in Chester, his niece Sienna was taken aback, initially mistaking him for her wicked father only to find out Patrick has a secret twin.
However, things haven’t been smooth for Jez as he shared his distressing experiences living under the shadow of his late brother Patrick.
In a chat with Inside Soap, Jeremy revealed: “A huge event blew the brothers apart and Jez disappeared – whatever went on was so traumatic he just had to escape. I imagine Jez was Patrick’s first victim.”
He also gave insight into the tense relationship between Jez and Martha, stating: “They have a terrible, toxic relationship, but we don’t know why yet. And it’s not even clear who is the good guy and who is the bad guy.”
Jeremy hinted at the complex family drama involving Sherrie’s character Martha, stating: “But this is the Blakes we’re talking about! Sherrie is fantastic, I’m not sure she’s ever played a character like this! “.
