Corrie ‘work out’ who buys Gail’s house as Platts set to leave cobbles after 50 years
Coronation Street enthusiasts believe they’ve cracked the mystery of who will be the new owner of the Platt’s house on the street, and it’s not Carla Connor.
It was recently unveiled that Gail Platt (played by Helen Worth) has decided to sell her cherished No. 8 residence. The decision to put her house on the market is a desperate attempt to raise funds for her granddaughter Bethany Platt (portrayed by Lucy Fallon), following her disastrous cosmetic surgery overseas.
Fans may remember that Bethany ended up in hospital with sepsis, a perforated bowel, and pneumonia after the failed surgery abroad. She now has to live with a permanent stoma and has since returned to Weatherfield.
The unexpected sale of Gail’s house also aligns with Helen Worth’s departure from the show, as she bids farewell after 50 years on the soap. Additionally, her son David (Jack P. Shepherd) is furious about the sale of their home, as it means he’ll have to find a new place for him, Shona (Julia Goulding), and Max (Paddy Dever) to live, reports the Liverpool Echo.
Just last week, he was dismayed to see an estate agent putting up a “For Sale” sign outside No. 8. Soon enough, potential buyers started showing up, including Carla Connor (Alison King) and Ryan (Ryan Prescott).
David tried to deter them with various lies about the house. However, Carla saw through David’s ploy and told him: “It don’t matter. I’ll probably just rip the whole place out. I’m thinking of buying it!”
Corrie’s Jack P. Shepherd has dished on David Platt’s possessive streak over his family home, saying: “David’s always been hellbent on it being his house, and it’s never been any of the other siblings’ house, just David’s.”
“In his head it’s his birthright! He’s never moved out, but maybe he should have done. That’s why he always insists that it’s his house, and it’s just as much Nick (Ben Price)’s and Sarah (Tina O’Brien)’s. But because he thinks it’s his house, when Gail’s selling his house, he kicks off.”
Meanwhile, Corrie fans are abuzz with speculation about who will move into the Platt household. While Carla Connor has been hinted at as a potential new resident, the fanbase is buzzing with theories that it could be DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) and her daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin) instead.
“I’m gonna need Gail Platt to sell or persuade Lisa Swain to buy her house and then Swain and Betsy can live on the street. Carla can see Swain everyday then. I’m begging”, one viewer posted on social media. Another chimed in: “Yes! She definitely needs somewhere more local.” And a third added: “Swain will probably move in.”
