Corrie ‘work out’ who kills Gail Platt in shock twist as exit looms – and it’s not Jesse
Coronation Street fans are speculating that a resident of the cobbles is set to murder Gail Platt in a tragic plot twist.
Soap icon Helen Worth, who portrays Gail, is due to depart from the show after a 50-year stint. Her exit was confirmed back in June, with the initial storyline involving her ex-husband Martin Platt (played by Sean Wilson).
However, reports emerged that Sean had exited the soap, despite having already shot several weeks’ worth of scenes. Consequently, the soap brought back former star John Thomson, who plays Jesse, to be part of Gail’s departure.
Last week saw Jesse’s return, revealing that he and Gail had a holiday fling years ago while both were travelling in Thailand. Jesse has since butted heads with Gail’s children Sarah (Tina O’Brien) and David (Jack P. Shephard).
Tensions have escalated since Gail decided to sell her and David’s house to raise funds for granddaughter Bethany’s (Lucy Fallon) medical expenses, reports the Liverpool Echo.
However, Wednesday’s episode (October 23) took a dramatic turn when Gail seemed to be suffering a heart attack, leading Jesse to call an ambulance. She was swiftly taken to hospital where she went into cardiac arrest.
The medics later informed the Platts that she had an arterial blockage. As a result, she required surgery to insert a stent. However, fans are now predicting that Gail will meet her end following the announcement of her departure. In a shocking twist, they believe someone will murder her.
Corrie fans got chatty on a Facebook fan page as one said with concern, “Poor Gail, I really hope she’s going to be ok.” Another speculated, “What if all along David is going to murder Gail and there is no happy ending exit for her.”
A third chimed in, asking “Would he really murder his mum? ” which resulted in another adding, “He has a dark side. And it’s about time he has a decent storyline.” A fifth exclaimed, “If Gail gets killed off I will riot, but I can see this happening.”
Opening up about her big Corrie goodbye, Helen stated, “This year felt like the perfect time to leave the show after celebrating 50 years in the most wonderful job on the most wonderful street in the world. I made the decision at the start of the year and spoke to the producers who were very kind and understanding.”
Helen expressed her gratitude, saying, “I have been truly blessed to have been given the most incredible scripts week in week out, and to have worked with fantastic actors, directors and a brilliant crew.”
