Corrie’s Joel ‘still alive’ as fans ‘work out’ identity of dead body in river in huge twist
Coronation Street fans are convinced that they have worked out the real identity of the dead body that was found in the river - and it's not who the police think it is
Coronation Street’s Joel Deering (Calum Lill) is still alive, according to fans who believe they’ve figured out the identity of the recently discovered corpse.
The villainous solicitor vanished from the cobbles after his horrific crimes were exposed. Viewers will remember that Joel has a past of grooming and exploiting young women, including Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton), whom he impregnated before attempting to kill their unborn child, Frankie.
Despite being arrested last month, he was released on bail and seemingly fled Weatherfield. However, when his abandoned car was found, police concluded he had taken his own life. But in a shocking twist this week on the soap, it was revealed that Joel was dead and had been murdered, igniting a thrilling murder mystery on the cobbles.
In Monday’s episode (October 14), three lads spotted a body floating on a riverbank. Corrupt cop Kit (Jacob Roberts) later informed DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) that the body was Joel’s, reports the Liverpool Echo.
The news quickly reached Joel’s ex, Dee-Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown), and former victim, Lauren. Kit later informed Lauren that the post-mortem showed Joel was already dead before entering the river, leading to a murder investigation as he questioned the young woman.
However, fans are speculating that Joel might still be alive, in what could be a massive plot twist. Viewers have even theorised about the identity of the dead body. Fans have been sharing their theories online, suggesting that Joel might have a secret twin that no one knows about. According to these theories, Joel might have killed his twin (explaining the matching DNA) and gone on the run.
One fan speculated on a Coronation Street Facebook fan page: “How about a twin who he kills to stop people looking for him so he can kidnap Frankie, a thought,” Another fan responded: “Funnily enough that thought passed my mind when people suggested he might not be dead. Would be a twist and explain DNA matching.”
Another viewer suggested that the mysterious Kit might have lied when identifying the body. They commented: “Either that or Kit identified the body saying it was him but it isn’t.” A third added: “Wouldn’t be surprised if he had a twin.” A fourth chimed in: “Could Joel be a twin.”
On another platform, a fan claimed: “Kit is covering up. The body isn’t Joel. He’s falsified the ID paperwork. All part of a much bigger crime ring involving young girls. They’ve helped Joel escape. Bet he comes back at Christmas to steal Lauren’s baby.”
Other fans believe they have solved the mystery of the dead body’s identity. They think it could be Logan (Harry Lowbridge), the brother of Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan).
