Corrie’s Roy Cropper charged with murder as his past comes back to haunt him
Coronation Street fans will see Roy Cropper charged with the murder of missing teenager Lauren Bolton - and his chequered past will have a part to play in his downfall
Coronation Street local Roy Cropper will be dealt a devastating blow in scenes airing next week.
Roy (David Neilson), has been a beloved member of the Cobbles since 1995, but his dodgy past will once again come out as coppers use it against him in upcoming scenes.
The beloved cafe owner will be charged with the murder of missing teen Lauren Bolton after being DS Lisa Swain’s number one suspect after he deep cleaned Lauren’s flat after she disappeared.
Roy was taken in for questioning after the search for Lauren became a murder inquiry and he was hit with trolls and speculation from online sleuths.
In Friday’s episode (April 12), Roy is taken in for questioning about the incident and is interrogated while solicitor Dee Dee is by his side. But as Swain dives into Roy’s chequered past, it’s evident she sees him as the man responsible.
Later Dee Dee returns to Roys Rolls by herself to explain that he has been charged with Lauren’s murder and is being held in police custody. Meanwhile, Roy is sitting alone in a dark cell, looking terrified.
Speaking of the twist which has seen Roy jailed, actor David Neilson said: “Roy is innocent in every respect, he is innocent of the crime, but he is also an innocent soul. He never thought for one minute it would come to this, he truly felt that if he simply answered everything honestly it would all be okay and he was naïve to assume that being innocent meant that he would be seen to be innocent.
“What I like about this storyline is the way it has gone back 29 years to 1995 when Roy first arrived. It is reminiscent of that early Roy Cropper when people were suspicious of his behaviour and thought he was creepy.
“And all this history will be used against him, things that have happened in the past like abducting their foster child. All that makes this storyline interesting to play and to watch it unfold.”
David previously spoke about the troubling turn for his character and said things are “only going to get worse” for Roy while Lauren’s murder remains unsolved.
