Corrie’s Todd star shares cosy backstage snap with ‘pal’ hours after she slapped him
Gareth Pierce has been playing the role of Todd Grimshaw since 2020, but gushed over one of his co-stars after tense scenes saw him get battered by her on the ITV soap
Coronation Street actor Gareth Pierce has paid tribute to one of his on-screen co-stars, even after being slapped.
Pierce, 42, joined the cast of the iconic ITV soap as Todd Grimshaw when he took over from Bruno Langley, who was forced to leave the cobbles in 2017 after being convicted of sexual assault. Since joining the cast in 2020, Gareth has continued to keep up Todd’s scheming personality as he works his way around the Street.
Recently, however, things have become emotional for Todd as he is being drawn into good pal Paul Foreman’s last weeks on the Street. After being diagnosed with motor neuron disease (MND) last year, Paul’s condition has been worsening, and the residents of the Street are preparing to say goodbye as he reaches the end of his life.
However, despite the heartbreak Todd is suffering as Paul’s condition worsens, romance looked to be on the cards as he seemed to grow close to Paul’s therapist Moses. But he was once again dealt a huge blow after Paul’s mum Bernie seemed to get the wrong end of the stick.
Spotting Todd and Moses having an innocuous hug, Bernie misinterpreted the hug to mean something else, and threw Moses under the bus by reporting him to his boss. As a result, Moses was suspended by his boss, leaving Paul devastated.
To make matters worse, in a tender moment between the two, Moses revealed he would be moving down south to London after being snapped up by another company. This only added to Todd’s woes in gut-wrenching scenes that had viewers in tears.
But despite Bernie’s determination to put a stop to Todd and Moses’ relationship, off-screen the actors are smiles. Taking to Instagram, Jane Hazelgrove – who plays Bernie in the soap – shared a cute photo of the trio, beaming with smiles at the camera.
Captioning the post, she wrote: “See! All pals off camera! I love working with these beauts!” before tagging Gareth and Michael Fatogun, who portrays Moses.
Responding to the picture, Gareth was seen gushing over his co-star as he took to the comments section. In a doting reply to the snap, he wrote: “Love ya!” to his co-star.
However, he also took the opportunity to sneak in a cheeky dig at her at the same time. “She says that, but shortly after this, those yellow marigolds were slapped across my chops like a pair of Middle Ages gauntlets,” he quipped.
