Coronation Street's Cait Fitton has revealed the hilarious struggles she faced with fans

Coronation Street’s Cait Fitton was forced to lie to enthusiastic fans who begged her for spoilers before her big comeback.

The Lauren Bolton actress was forced to take drastic action to keep her return under wraps, and it meant keeping the truth from eager fans who met her out in public. Cait was faced with awkward encounters constantly, as she was confronted in the supermarket by viewers desperate to know what had happened to Lauren.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Cait admitted the lies she was forced to tell viewers to ensure no one worked out the twist before it aired. With Lauren offscreen for months before the big reveal, Cait had weeks of being asked about the shocking storyline, and every time she had to claim she had quit the show for good.

Lauren made a shock return to the show last week, months on from her going missing in February. In May we learned she was attacked and presumedly killed by Joel Deering, but she was revealed to be alive in a recent episode.

Not only that but we found out she was five months pregnant with Joel’s baby, before she then fled again in a taxi after Joel tried to scare her off. With Lauren now back on the cobbles but eager to get away, Cait spoke to us about keeping the big twist under wraps.

She told us: “I knew people would be invested, just not as invested as they have been. When I was on the show before I didn’t get any publicity at all and I didn’t really get recognised. It is mad, I’ll be doing my weekly shop, I’ll be down the bread aisle and I get about four people shouting, ‘I’ve found her!’.

“That’s mental because some people will walk past and they don’t have a clue what they’re talking about and I’m thinking, if I can just get my bread and get out of the aisle… but I couldn’t tell them! I’d have to say, ‘I’m done, yeah I’m done’.”

Cait added: “It’s great to see how invested people have been. It’s such an important issue raised, I hope from this people will speak up. It’s such an important issue to address.”
