Coronation Street actor Calum Lill has teased what Joel Deering had planned for Lauren Bolton before her latest escape.
Viewers saw a heated showdown between the characters on Tuesday night, in the dramatic fallout to Lauren’s return to the ITV soap. Lauren had been presumed dead for months, ever since she vanished without a trace in February.
Weeks ago we found out she’d been attacked by Joel, with her presumed dead – that was until she made her big comeback this week. The twists didn’t stop there though, as on Tuesday night we learned Lauren was five months pregnant with Joel’s baby.
The truth about how he groomed her and how long things had gone on for was revealed in flashbacks, while we also saw their violent showdown for the first time in full, leading to Lauren being left for dead. We also found out what Lauren did next and how she escaped, and we were shown Joel’s next movements also.
In their latest showdown on Tuesday night, Joel pleaded with Lauren not to reveal all about what happened. The episode ended with Lauren managing to escape the hospital and fleeing in a taxi, as Joel set chase to cover his tracks.

Now, speaking exclusively to The Mirror actor Calum has spilled on Joel’s latest plan for Lauren, in his bid to silence her. With Lauren left fearing for her life once again as Joel turned aggressive, Calum told us whether Joel was being genuine with his keenness to ‘help’ Lauren, and what he might have planned for her.
In response to Joel claiming he had a tough childhood amongst other comments about his family life, he told us: “I think a lot of that was making up stories to make Lauren see a common ground with him and feel sorry for him, with him using her good nature and her negative past hoping she feels sorry for him.”
On his plan for Lauren, he went on: “I think he was making his plan up as he goes along to get her out of there and away from Weatherfield. Maybe pay her off. Once he saw the baby [bump]… Joel is not a serial killer. He just lashed out. I don’t think he wanted to kill her but get her away and pay her off.”
