How is Chesney related to Les and Leanne on Coronation Street? Link explained
Les Battersby's death on Coronation Street leaves those linked to him devastated in upcoming episodes on the ITV soap, but is Chesney Les' son, and is he related to Leanne?
There is some sad news about to hit residents on Coronation Street, with characters brought together through grief.
Les Battersby is being killed off in a shock plot, and spoilers for future episodes hint that there could be more to his death. Leanne Battersby, Toyah Battersby and Fiz and Chesney Brown are united in their heartache over the loss.
On Friday’s episode, spoilers revealed Chesney would bond with Les’ daughters Leanne and Toyah over Les’ death ahead of suspicious scenes next week. But for those who have seen Friday’s episode already on ITVX, you may have noticed Chesney discussing his relationship to Les.
He referred to him as ‘Uncle Les’ twice, before admitting his connection to Bernie Winter. He went on to reveal they were no longer close and have not been in proper contact for years, with Les leaving the cobbles when Chesney was really young.
So how exactly are the pair linked, and is Chesney related to Leanne or Toyah? Chesney actually got close with Les years ago when he was a kid, and when Les got with Chesney’s mother Cilla he became his stepfather.
Les later decided to adopt his stepson, with Chesney, Les and Cilla being a family along with Chesney’s dog. Sadly Les and Cilla split further down the line, and both characters eventually left the street separately.

Chesney is not related biologically to Les’ daughter Leanne, while Toyah was Les’ stepdaughter after his relationship with her mother Janice Battersby. Leanne’s mother was Stella Price, while Toyah’s father was Ronnie Clegg.
Leanne herself did not really stay in touch with Les after his exit from the show, in that she did message him and speak with him but rarely saw him. The same seems to be the case for Toyah, with Les not mentioned.
Chesney confides in Bernie on Friday stating he and Les weren’t close, after they became estranged. Not really being in contact for some time, Chesney was still fond of the character and seemed to refer to him as Uncle Les.
Despite his link to Toyah and Leanne at one point, the characters rarely appear onscreen together and are no longer that close. Friday’s episode brought them back together again to grieve for Les, with them also appearing in scenes together next week.
Spoilers reveal Chesney is suspicious when they are told that the abattoir where Les worked has offered £50k in compensation for his death. There’s one condition though, and they must all sign an NDA.
