ITV Coronation Street announces huge return in Lauren storyline – and Bethany should be worried

Coronation Street have announced the return of a huge character as Weatherfield continue to search for ‘missing’ Lauren.

Kimberly Hart Simpson will be back as Nicky Wheatley for an upcoming storyline surrounding the Lauren Bolton case. The young teenager disappeared several weeks ago, with Roy Cropper currently in the frame for her disappearance or death. The police are convinced she must be dead after DS Swain noted that the blood they found at her flat was in line with an assault of some sort.

In the coming weeks, Kimberly will reprise her role as Nicky when Daniel goes looking for his old friend in the hope to find out who really attacked or killed Lauren as both him and Roy Cropper are in the frame.

He decides to reach out to Nicky to clear his name, as she has worked as an escort herself and met Daniel over four years ago when he turned to her after losing his wife Sinead to cancer. Nicky now works as an outreach worker in the community and Daniel is hopeful that she might be able to speak to the girls she supports on the streets and find out more about what happened to Lauren.

It’s clear there is a connection between Nicky and Daniel – but will that spark trouble for him and Bethany? Daniel is unsure how much Nicky can get from the girls, as they are all clearly scared and feeling vulnerable after Lauren’s murder. Will she be able to get more information out of them that could put Daniel and Roy in the clear over Lauren’s death?

Speaking about her return, she said: “It is once again a pleasure to be back on the cobbles. Stories surrounding women within the sex industry have often been forgotten, shamed or unspoken. But not at Coronation Street, they respectfully explore the world these women live in, the impact it has on the community and at some points dangers attached to the work.

“The story of Lauren Bolton has allowed the safety of other characters to come forward such as Cassie but unfortunately led to the devastating effects of conspiracy theories by other folk. Nicky has fought against all stereotypes and I am looking forward to the audience finding out who and where she is today.”
