ITV Coronation Street deaths ‘confirmed’ for two characters in the cobbles after huge return
Coronation Street viewers are convinced that Alina Pop and Betsy Swain face a certain death.
Actress Ruxandra Porojnicu returned to the ITV soap this Wednesday, August 7, 2024, reprising the role of Alina Pop, who was once involved with the much older Tyrone Dobbs (played by Alan Halsall), now married to Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine).
After bumping into the latter outside of Freshco, Alina was tracked down to the Chariot Square Hotel, where it was implied her son had been fathered by Tyrone back in 2021.
Meanwhile, Betsy (Sydney Martin) has been playing with fire as she continued to blackmail Joel Deering (Calum Lill), pushing him to reveal a glimpse of his true colours in a darkened alleyway.

This comes after the villain, who has been tormenting Lauren Bolton for months, found out that Betsy was the daughter of DS Lisa Swain, who has been on his trail following Lauren’s disappearance. The connection was enough for certain fans to wonder if the detective would somehow get involved in Joel’s downfall.
The plot now thickens for ITV viewers at home as many have taken to X, otherwise known as Twitter, convinced that Alina and Betsy will be killed off. “So thats Alina probably dead by xmas and Tyrone and fizz raising the kiddo”, one of them penned.
Another predicted that history was bound to repeat itself with Alina: “I’m both overjoyed to see the lovely Alina again and terrified for her (Remembering what #Corrie did to Natasha. And Kirsty. And Katy Armstrong. And how it treats young single mothers in general).”
A third commented: “#corrie #coronationstreet is anyone else wanting Betsy to be killed off by Joel.” Just as a fourth added: “So in what way will they kill off Alina so Fiz and Tyrone have to bring up the baby?”
“I can see a future storyline of Joel Killing Betsy”, another suggested, while another bluntly wrote: “Betsy’s gonna be dead.” One TV fan echoed: “Now that Alina is back with a kid, she’s got a 90% chance of being dead by the end of the year.”
This prompted another viewer to ask if Hope, Tyrone’s volatile stepdaughter, born from Fiz’s marriage with serial killer John Stape, would be involved in Alina’s demise. “It’ll either be cancer or an off-screen car crash”, they theorised.
As mentioned, viewers began to believe Lisa Swain and her daughter may be involved in Joel’s downfall after he connected the dots and realised they were related. A theory suggests that Joel may kill off Betsy in an attempt to cover his tracks and stop her from exposing him, only pushing DS Swain to finally take him down. But how will it really play out?
