ITV Coronation Street fear upsetting twist as Chesney targeted by mystery character

Viewers of Coronation Street couldn’t hide their concern for Chesney Brown, after a mystery new storyline kicked off on the ITV soap.

The character was seen blocking in a van on Monday night, after he fumed over the driver taking his parking space. But on Wednesday the mystery driver took their revenge, leaving him stunned.

The exact same van was seen speeding down the street, brushing against his car and almost hitting him. Chesney was clearly getting out of his vehicle with the door wide open, when the van sped down the street past him without stopping.

Chesney addressed the moment later on, with it evidently the exact same van from the car park. His young son Joseph had heard him, and soon feared the “van man” was out to get his dad.

Bringing up the sad deaths of his uncle Paul Foreman and his mother Katy Armstrong, Joseph shared his fears that he would soon lose his dad too. Chesney seemed really down amid his wife Gemma being away, but he was worried to see how scared his son was.

Chesney vowed there was nothing to worry about and that everything would be okay. As Joseph questioned whether the “van man” would come after them, Chesney ruled this out and played down the incident, suggesting it was just a scrape and that nothing was going to happen to him.

But viewers couldn’t help think the repeated scenes with the van were significant for some reason or another. Many wondered if there was a sad storyline on the way for the character.

After Joseph was seen watching out for a van, believing he’d seen it drive slowly by the window, fans wondered if someone was out to get Chesney after all. Others were sure there could be more to it and maybe the van drama wasn’t the issue, but a storyline for Chesney.

While some speculated Chesney could be on the verge of a breakdown, some wondered whether it could lead to Gemma’s permanent exit – or whether a familiar face was returning to the show. Taking to X, one fan suggested: “Isn’t Gemma leaving? I’m presuming this is the start of a storyline regarding her demise.”

Another questioned: “I think he’s heading for a breakdown.” A third fan said: “That van that Chesney had a run in with is going to belong to someone we know I bet,” while a fourth comment read: “Where’s this Chesney car thing going?”

So is Chesney struggling to cope and could it all lead to a mental health storyline? Could he face trouble with the “van man” resulting in danger for him or Gemma amid exit rumours? Might it be someone we know returning? Viewers will have to wait and see if any of the theories are correct.
