Coronation Street fans are convinced Friday’s episode of the ITV soap hinted at who is targeting Abi Franklin.
Only recently, someone has created deepfake porn videos of Abi using AI, and posted them online and on social media. Abi has no idea who has done it and why, but she knows someone is out to get her. For weeks fans have assumed her rival Cassie Plummer is to blame, amid her clear feelings for Abi’s husband Kevin Webster and jealously towards Abi.
However, after Friday’s episode, viewers think someone else could be to blame. Soap watchers will recall that mysterious newcomer Rowan Cunliffe has targeted Leanne with his “self-improvement group” The Institute. Rowan has also been pulling Leanne away from partner Nick Tilsley and even her sister Toyah Battersby during her time of need.
Rowan has been encouraging Leanne to open up about her past and the trauma she has faced, using his tools and guiding her to speak aloud about parts of her life. In a shock twist, Rowan was recently revealed to be recording everything Leanne was saying without her knowledge. Of course, viewers will recall that Toyah has been concerned for Leanne and extremely sceptical of Rowan.

On Friday night, it was revealed that Rowan and The Institute had been using AI to create fake videos of members’ late loved ones in a ‘sick’ twist with Leanne’s grief being used against her. Taking to Twitter, now X, viewers wondered whether Rowan and The Institute could be behind the fake videos of Abi as it was too much of a coincidence that AI was being used in both storylines.
One person said: “Maybe Rowan is the 1 doing the fake videos!”, a different account put: “Another flaming bit of ai? so it was rowan behind abi’s fake videos now was it? #Corrie”, another wrote: “Makes me wonder are the two connected?” while a different viewer added: “If Rowan has done AI maybe he’s the one who is doing the AI Abi videos? #Corrie.”
Elsewhere, earlier this week, Cassie was overheard mocking Abi and her situation, leading to her losing her job at the garage. Cassie seemed to believe the videos were genuinely of Abi and not faked, while fans also pointed out Cassie would unlikely know how to create the content. She ended up having a row with Abi and Kevin over her comments, leaving her gutted. Is Cassie innocent and Rowan the real culprit?
