ITV Coronation Street Roy Cropper’s freedom ‘sealed’ as fans ‘rumble’ DNA clue
Coronation Street legend Roy Cropper is charged with the murder of missing teenager Lauren Bolton this week and fans have figured out his freedom
Coronation Street legend Roy Cropper is set for a devastating blow this week when he is charged with the murder of missing teenager Lauren Bolton.
Soap fans will recall that troubled youngster Lauren abruptly left the cobbles earlier this year and love interest Bobby has been left concerned after he found her flat unlocked with Lauren nowhere to be seen. Viewers never saw Lauren leave and it seems she told no one close to her of her plan to leave Weatherfield aside from Roy given she immediately vanished.
Bobby reported Lauren as missing to the police and Roy has found himself under suspicion due to his kind nature, especially after he was caught innocently cleaning Lauren’s flat, which some people thought proved he was guilty. Only recently, Roy was wrongly arrested on suspicion of murdering his former employee and now he’s set to be charged as DS Swain sees him as number one suspect. In emotional upcoming scenes, a terrified and confused Roy sits alone in his police cell dreading his pending court hearing.

Taking to social media, viewers have been discussing the storyline with some fans providing a theory, which would free Roy and reveal Lauren’s fate. One person said: “Could Lauren make a shock appearance at the trial? #Corrie”, a different account put: “I feel this will end when Lauren turns at the trial as an unannounced witness!!!” while another added: “Get Lauren to turn up in Court!”
Elsewhere, another soap watcher speculated: “Anyone else think DS Swain is Lauren’s mum, and she’s keeping her hidden somewhere? #CoronationStreet #Corrie”. It comes as DS Lisa Swain actress Vicky Myers teased the arrival of her character’s daughter.
Only recently, DS Swain made a return to the cobbles and has become a Weatherfield regular as she investigates missing teenager Lauren. With DS Swain becoming a soap regular, viewers will get to see the real Lisa away from her police profession and this could mean the introduction of a new character or two.
Talking with TV Times, DS Swain actress Vicky teased: “[Swain is] a single mum and a lot of people can relate to that. We’re in the process of casting her 16-year-old daughter, and I think it’s fair to say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – she’s feisty, opinionated and educated. It’s going to be interesting watching Swain juggling her professional and personal lives. Also, we know she’s gay, so is there another mother and, if so, is she involved?”
