ITV Coronation Street to air ‘interesting’ DS Swain twist as new character teased
Coronation Street viewers could be introduced to a new character in upcoming weeks as part of an "interesting" DS Swain storyline on the cobbles
Coronation Street is set to air an “interesting” DS Lisa Swain storyline on the cobbles.
Only recently, DS Swain made a return to the cobbles and has become a Weatherfield regular as she investigates missing teenager Lauren Bolton. So far, fans have seen the finger of suspicion fall upon both Daniel Osborne and Roy Cropper with the latter wrongly arrested despite his innocence.
With DS Swain becoming a soap regular, viewers will get to see the real Lisa away from her police profession and this could mean the introduction of a new character or two. Talking with TV Times, DS Swain actress Vicky Myers teased: “[Swain is] a single mum and a lot of people can relate to that.
“We’re in the process of casting her 16-year-old daughter, and I think it’s fair to say the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree – she’s feisty, opinionated and educated. It’s going to be interesting watching Swain juggling her professional and personal lives. Also, we know she’s gay, so is there another mother and, if so, is she involved?”

It comes as Vicky opened up about returning to Coronation Street as a soap regular earlier this year. Speaking to the Mirror, as well as other press, about returning for the big storyline, Vicky teased that someone on the cobbles will catch her character’s eye in a potential romance storyline.
Giving a brief summary, the actress explained of DS Swain: “We know that she has a daughter, a teenage daughter. Also, I’m not entirely sure if everybody knows this, she’s gay. I think for Swain, she perhaps has seen somebody that has caught her eye but at the moment she’s far too busy on focusing on this investigation, career and being a single mum.”
Vicky admitted she was first contracted for eight episodes on the cobbles and is delighted to be joining now as a soap regular as it was “never expected” and is a “massive opportunity”. Talking about her sticking around on the cobbles for a long time, Vicky said: “It’s looking good so far! We’re only just scratching the surface with Swain!”
So far, Roy has been the prime suspect for the disappearance and suspected death of Lauren, and next week, fans will see Roy get charged after DS Swain is convinced he is the only person that can be responsible for what happened.
