ITV Coronation Street’s Calum Lill reveals unseen secret about Joel Deering murder
The chilling details of Joel Deering’s demise in Coronation Street were unveiled in the latest episode, with Lauren Bolton being outed as his murderer. Following the revelation that Lauren dealt the fatal blow, actor Calum Lill has bid farewell to the show.
Reflecting on his departure, Calum shared some behind-the-scenes insights: “I’ve got the murder weapon at home,” he admitted. “It’s like a brick that would have been part of the bridge, so I’ve got the foam soft version. Not soft enough to be hit as hard as I was in the face repeatedly by Cait [Fitton], but softer than a brick nonetheless.”
Calum’s character left the soap in July, but he made a comeback this month for the dramatic exit scenes. The actor described the unique filming experience. “I came back for my final episode – it was nice to come back and see everyone – and it was like we were filming a movie,” he recounted.
“We spent 12 hours shooting one of the scenes. We had different cameras and green screens and special effects. I’ve never experienced anything like that before – it was incredible. The location has been used for the Peaky Blinders movie, House Of Guinness, The Talamasca – all these big productions – and us.”
Before securing his spot on the Corrie cast, Callum revealed he had a two-year hiatus from acting. During that time, he took on various jobs, from selling cars to working food stands at festivals.

He confessed that despite acting being his passion, the journey was challenging. Calum candidly confessed, “I really struggled to find my feet as I started. For about six months, watching the episodes back, I was beating myself up. I’d watch the episodes with my fiancée and I’d go upstairs and she’d know to leave me for a bit because I was beating myself up. It took that time to try and get into the character.”
He further added, “I worked so hard. I know that there’s definitely better actors than me but I don’t think anybody else could have put in as much work as I did. Because I just said, if I can give this 100% and I leave and I don’t work for years, at least I know that there’s no more I could have done.”
Despite a hectic 15 months, Calum isn’t slowing down and has already secured a new role in panto. The star of the cobbles will portray the ‘baddie’ in Jack and the Beanstalk in the Bournemouth production.
