Coronation Street fans have issued a warning to Leanne Battersby over newcomer Rowan Cunliffe

Coronation Street viewers think Leanne Battersby needs to watch her back, after worrying scenes with new character Rowan Cunliffe.

After a handful of appearances, Rowan was back on the soap on Wednesday night and this time he was confronted by Leanne’s sister Toyah Battersby over his recent actions. The character, played by actor Emrhys Cooper, debuted on the show recently as the host of a seminar for a place called The Institute.

Leanne got talking to Rowan and he told her all about the institute and what it aims for, leaving Leanne inspired. Since then Leanne has been wanting to hear more from Rowan, and has been watching videos by him and the Autovalent Institute.

Toyah has been left worried, and upcoming scenes will see her try to prove Rowan is a fraud. But Toyah isn’t the only one believing Rowan is up to no good, with fans convinced they’ve worked out his plan.

Amid the soap’s looming cult storyline, fans warned Leanne as they believed he was going to reel her in and con her. Others even wondered if Rowan might be linked to the disappearance of missing teen Lauren Bolton.

Taking to X, one fan posted: “Rowan is going to bleed you dry Leanne you mug,” as another said: “Give your whole bank account to Rowan Leanne.” A third fan added: “Get creepy vibes off that Rowan. Could have been him who killed Lauren if she is dead. Bit of a coincidence he comes in it when she disappears.”

Rowan actor Emrhys recently told The Mirror whether his character would be put off by Toyah’s suspicions about him. He said: “Rowan isn’t fazed by Toyah’s reaction. He’s used to it. He wholeheartedly believes in the cause and isn’t thrown easily.

“What you’ve seen of Rowan so far is only the tip of the iceberg. He’s very clever and good at what he does, and yes, Leanne is in awe of him.

“There’ll be other residents who’ll be in his thrall, and may find themselves in the Institute after reading the upcoming scripts, I’m struck with just how many similarities and parallels I have to this storyline. It’s art imitating life.”
