ITV Corrie Joel’s downfall ‘sealed’ as unlikely resident uncovers chilling discovery at home
Coronation Street's evil Joel Deering could be set for a huge downfall as an unexpected resident makes a shocking discovery next week while at his house
Coronation Street’s villain Joel Deering could be on the brink of exposure as a suspicious discovery is made by an unexpected resident of the cobbles next week.
The sinister solicitor, played by Calum Lill, who first appeared on the ITV soap last year, is currently embroiled in one of Corrie’s most gripping storylines. Earlier this year, it was unveiled that Joel was the mastermind behind the vanishing act of Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton).
The distressed young woman disappeared in February and was feared dead. In a shocking twist, soap icon Roy Cropper (David Neilson) found himself under arrest for her murder, leaving the residents of Weatherfield stunned.
It was later revealed that Joel had brutally assaulted Lauren before leaving her to die. Last week’s episodes saw his true, dark nature come to light when Lauren made a surprising return to the show.
A sequence of flashbacks during the episode unveiled the truth about Lauren’s disappearance and her relationship with Joel. The wicked lawyer manipulated his way into Lauren’s life by helping her with bills, eventually pressuring her into a sexual relationship.
Lauren managed to escape from Joel at the end of the episode, but it seems that his downfall might be imminent next week.
As viewers will remember, Joel is engaged to Dee Dee Bailey (Channique Sterling-Brown), who remains unaware of his psychopathic tendencies, and the couple are planning to move in together.
Corrie fans, brace yourselves for some serious drama next week as Dee-Dee’s brother and uncle, Michael (played by Ryan Russell) and Ronnie (Vinta Morgan), step in to help Joel shift a hefty chest of drawers from his old pad to Dee-Dee’s gaff.
But it’s not all heavy lifting and sweat while Michael’s busy with the furniture, Ronnie has a snoop around the fridge and is gobsmacked to find it’s chock-a-block with microwave meals for one. Talk about a single man’s diet!
Later in the week, at Joel’s place, he tries to keep Lauren sweet by promising her she’ll be jetting off to Ireland within a week. But will she really get her Irish escape?
And hold onto your hats because Cait, the actress behind Lauren Bolton, has been spilling the beans. Chatting to Express.co.uk and other media at the Radio Times Soap Awards on Saturday, the 22 year old star hinted that Lauren might just get her “happily ever after” as the soap gears up for a climax where Joel gets his just desserts.
Cait dished out her hopes, saying: “I’d like to hope she [Lauren] will have a happily ever after. Because when you do things like this that are so intense, I think it’s quite hard.”
And when quizzed about whether Joel will face the music, she added: “I hope so! I really, really hope so. I think with anything when you’re a villain there’s always an end point.”
“But I think with doing a storyline like this, girls like Lauren need justice. Especially because it’s still happening today – grooming and exploitation, it’s still all happening today.”
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
