Maureen Lipman shares big Coronation Street news on Alan Titchmarsh’s ITV Sunday show
Coronation Street’s Evelyn Plummer has been lighting up our screens, and actress Maureen Lipman has discussed her continuing journey on the show.
It was six years ago when Tyrone Dobbs, portrayed by Alan Halsall, delved into his ancestry and discovered his grandmother, Evelyn Plummer, played by Maureen Lipman. Since then, Evelyn has become a solid fixture in the drama, sharing a home with Tyrone, Fiz Stape (Jennie McAlpine), and his daughters Hope (Isabella Flanagan) and Ruby (Macy Alabi).
The arrival of Evelyn’s daughter Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney), earlier in the year brought fresh intrigue to the formidable elder’s life before she fully settled in at the notorious number nine.
Maureen Lipman, now 78, recently joined Alan Titchmarsh on his show Love Your Weekend With Alan Titchmarsh to reflect on her illustrious career, including her spellbinding stint on Coronation Street.
For everyone who adores Evelyn, breathe a sigh of relief: Lipman has no plans to bow out from the soap opera anytime soon.
In their sit-down, Alan confirmed: “You’ve been signed up to do another year [on Coronation Street].”
To which Lipman affirmed the news: “I have been signed up to do another year, yes.” Emphasising the thrills of the job, she articulated: “It’s good for you, it keeps you on your metal, my goodness me.”
Adding her comment on the never-dulling nature of the industry, she stated: “I mean everything is still completely fascinating to me.”

She went on to express her unending passion for the profession: “I don’t get bored with this business and I don’t suppose you do either”, with Alan concurring: “No, it’s stimulating.”
Evelyn is embroiled in a significant storyline as Tyrone’s former flame, Alina Pop (Ruxandra Porojnicu), returns, revealing she had his son Dorin. However, with the traffickers still on her tail, Alina has requested to leave Dorin temporarily with him and Fiz until the trial concludes.
The question remains, when will it be safe for her to return?
