‘Pace it better!’ swipe Coronation Street fans as they blast soap for ‘ripping off The Bill’ with Roy Cropper arrest

CORONATION Street fans have blasted the soap for ‘ripping off The Bill’ with Roy Cropper’s arrest.
The cafe-owner has found himself at the centre of a police investigation after Lauren Bolton went missing recently.
New spoilers have revealed that things only get worse for Roy in upcoming scenes when he is caught with a shovel and bin bags by the police.
Roy was one of the last people to see Lauren in person before she mysteriously disappeared after he innocently offered to clean her flat at the precinct.
But next week, Nina’s appalled when she reads about how some amateur sleuths have been digging at the bat roost site, hoping to find some evidence to put Roy in the frame for Lauren’s murder.
Roy loads his car boot with shovels and bin bags and heads for the roost site to ensure all is OK.
But as he returns DS Swain is waiting for him to take him to the station.
However, Coronation Street fans are not happy with the storyline for a number of reasons.
Taking to a soap fan forum, one wrote: “Every character being put “in danger” every couple of episodes really makes these events feel less and less special each time. Great, an assault on Roy.
“We’ve already got word of another character “in danger” with their “life hanging in the balance” as well.
“It’s the same thing all the time. They need to pace the show’s events better.”
They added: “Additionally, I find it hilarious that this Lauren story had already needed to shift to being about Roy and making Roy the victim.
“I guess they realized Lauren wasn’t likeable or interesting enough to care whether she returns or not so everything will he about beating down Roy.”
Another commented: “My biggest problems with stories like this isn’t even the setup (contrived or not, honestly it doesn’t actually matter in the long run), but rather the content compared to what’s come before.
“It’s excessive and it no longer has the weight, sense of uniqueness, or real impact it used to.
“I mean Free the Weatherfield One was insane because of how different it was at the time. Nowadays someone is on the dock, quite literally every few months.
“We just got through Bernie’s trial and we’re now waiting on: Dylan’s, Roy’s, and Simon’s. That’s four trial subplots in a rather short amount of time (possibly Mason’s as well later in the year?).
“It’s becoming like affairs now. If someone has a storyline they’re interviewed by police or put on trial now. It’s lost its appeal (pun intended).”
They concluded: “This would be a more palatable storyline if it doesn’t happen so often anyway.”
A fellow Corrie fan agreed, replying: “I know what you mean. The casework generated by the residents in that small street alone are enough to keep DS Nadine and PC Creepy occupied full-time, as well as the two resident solicitors.”
The previous commented responded: “At this point they may as well just reboot Corrie into being a sequel to The Bill.”
However, others were interested to see where Roy’s storyline would go, with one writing: “While the reasons why Roy comes under suspicion for Lauren’s disappearance seem contrived and totally unrealistic, I do actually think that a storyline involving a popular character suffering trial by social media for simply being different from the accepted norm feels horribly relevant.
“It also gives Roy a potentially good storyline away from Sam, Evelyn and Nina for the first time in years.
“I will see how it plays out but, apart from the contrived setup, this actually sounds promising.”
Another replied: “I’m with you, it has a lot of potential.”
