There’s an update on Clayton Hibbs’ (Callum Harrison) condition in Coronation Street next week, after the killer tried to take his life in prison.
Shona Platt’s (Julia Goulding) on-screen son recently returned to the ITV soap after four years.
He was jailed back in 2016 for killing David’s first wife Kylie Platt (Paula Lane) in broad daylight, making his last appearance in the show back in 2020.
Following Shona’s last contact with her son four years ago, she and David agreed going forward that they would never speak of him again.
But David kept a huge secret from his wife in scenes that aired this week, after he received a call from Clayton in prison.
David then paid him a visit behind Shona’s back, telling a devastated Clayton that Shona wanted nothing to do with him and to stop contacting them.
David’s words had unintended consequences, however, as he later found Shona in a terrible state after a visit from the police, who revealed Clayton was in hospital after trying to take his life.
As Shona rushed to the hospital in a blind panic, she was told Clayton took an overdose and may have permanent brain damage.
Shona gets news on Clayton’s condition next week when he regains consciousness. However, she is stunned when he refuses to see her.
She tells David of the news, who is relieved to hear Clayton is OK.
But Shona is further confused to learn both he and the prison had previously tried to contact her, not realising David had intercepted.
Actress Julia Goulding previously teased that the truth could end up tearing Shona and David apart.
She said: ‘When Shona finds out her husband has been gaslighting her and had a part in Clayton trying to take his own life, I dread to think what she’s going to do. But I don’t think she’ll take it lying down!
‘There’s going to be a lot of anger and pain, a possibility they could destroy each other.’
