Steve makes his biggest romance gaffe to date in Coronation Street and we can’t quite fathom it
Coronation Street legend Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) is a man with more experience of romance than most. Married almost more times than Roy (David Neilson) has served hot dinners, despite this wealth of experience he is still spectacularly useless when it comes to dealing with romantic relationships.
Since Tracy (Kate Ford) left him for a life of sun, sea and Tommy Orpington (Matt Milburn), the poor man has not had much luck in love. He tried online dating and after some disastrous encounters was eventually pleased when he met a woman called Demi (Lisa Shingler).
She, however, wasn’t impressed that he was still obsessing over his ex and her new partner and walked out on Steve in mid-date, telling him to ‘have a nice life.’
Recently there have been a few sparks flying between Steve and Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney), who has been working as Ken (William Roache)’s carer.
They really enjoyed each other’s company when they went to a football match together, and in fact when Tim (Joe Duttine) enquired about Demi, Steve said that he’d forgotten all about her.
Cassie and Steve seem to be a good match, as she’s stroppy but with a heart of gold, rather like Tracy, Becky (Katherine Kelly), Karen (Suranne Jones)… in fact she’s exactly Steve’s type. But once again he manages to make a mess of things.
In upcoming episodes he invites Cassie to an evening of classical music in the park, which is a sentence we never expected to have to write. Cassie is excited at the prospect of the date and arrives looking very glamorous, but she’s totally thrown when Steve tells her that it won’t be him who’ll be escorting her to the event, but Ken.
Oh, Steve. That is no way to treat a lady.
Worse still, the reason he’s drafted in Ken as a substitute is that he has another date – with Demi. The very same Demi he previously claimed to have forgotten all about.
How will Cassie react when she finds out that Steve has dumped her in favour of his ex?
And has Steve made the right decision this time?
