TV legend Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) was rocked to the core in recent Coronation Street scenes when she woke up from her emergency surgery in Turkey.
The soap icon recently took a press trip to a cosmetic surgery clinic, where she decided to get a treatment done herself.
However, things took a disastrous turn when the procedure went wrong, and she ended up hospitalised.
In tonight’s episode, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) finally arrived at her bedside after a disastrous ordeal involving her passport, and it didn’t take long for her and Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) to start bickering.
Sarah was furious that Daniel had ignored the calls about Bethany’s emergency while he was with Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) and blamed him for her not being able to get to Bethany sooner.
With Daniel refusing to disclose what he and Daisy had been talking about, Sarah demanded that he leave the hospital and fly back to Weatherfield.
After he’d gone, Bethany woke up, and Sarah had some life-changing news for her.
She revealed that Bethany’s procedure had caused considerable damage to her bowel, and that she had been fitted with a stoma bag.
Though Bethany was quite calm about it at first, her face fell when Sarah revealed that she would have to have it for the rest of her life.
Bethany’s ordeal is also set to come at a cost for the whole family, as Daniel was informed that her hospital stay wasn’t covered by her insurance, as she had failed to disclose her plans to undergo liposuction.
During a tense phone call to the family back at home, Sarah revealed that Bethany’s surgery alone would cost £15,000, and every day she spent in hospital would set them back £2000 on top of that.
How will Bethany cope with her new normal, and will the Platts be able to find the money to pay for her treatment?
