Who killed Lauren exposed! Every huge spoiler from game-changing Coronation Street week
Coronation Street is about to reveal the truth about what happened to Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) in a special week of episodes from Monday May 27.
Lauren disappeared from her flat in the precinct, leaving behind signs of a struggle, an uneaten sandwich and bloodstains. Beloved cafe owner Roy Cropper (David Neilson) was subsequently arrested for her murder. As the last person to have seen her and having admitted to cleaning up the flat afterwards, his actions certainly seemed to be suspicious – to anyone who doesn’t know Roy.
More recently the arrival of Nathan Curtis (Chris Harper) back to Weatherfield has thrown up another possible suspect. The man who was responsible for grooming and raping Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) in 2017 is more than capable of having been behind Lauren’s disappearance.
In an explosive week there’ll be more twists and turns than you can shake a stick at, before the truth is finally revealed – and we’ve got all the details.
Sarah Platt takes drastic action to get rid of Nathan
Bethany Platt is, of course, traumatised to have Nathan Curtis back in Weatherfield and tells Sarah (Tina O’Brien) she can’t stay in the area while Nathan is there. Sarah has already tried to pay him £10,000 to leave, but he makes it clear that he has no intention of going anywhere.
At the end of her tether, Sarah comes up with a plan. Lauren left a hair bobble at the Platts’ and there are some hairs tangled up in it – enough for the police to get DNA if it’s found. She decides to take this and plant it in Nathan’s van at the building site.
She’s caught by police officer Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), who urges her to let the police do their job.
Nathan is arrested
Soon news is spreading in the street that Nathan has been arrested. Kit finds some USB sticks in Nathan’s van that are enough to get him arrested for breaching his sexual harm prevention order.
A more thorough examination of the van reveals one of Lauren’s hairs. Kit tells Sarah that she must have dropped it, but he promises to keep her name out of it.
At the police station Nathan is rattled to hear that the girl who previously agreed to give him an alibi for the night of Lauren’s disappearance has changed her mind. As DS Swain (Vicky Myers) interrogates Nathan about his vile interest in young girls, he answers her questions with ‘no comment’ answers.
Joel is acting as Nathan’s solicitor
There has been a lot of speculation as to whether there’s a link between solicitor Joel Deering (Calum Lill) and evil Nathan Curtis, with some fans wondering whether the two could turn out to be brothers.
Suspicions have also been raised about Joel being a possible suspect in Lauren’s disappearance after some coincidences like him giving similar flowers to Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) to the ones that Lauren’s mystery ‘boyfriend’ sent to her before her disappearance.
When Joel agrees to represent Nathan and sits in on the police interviews, is he just being a good lawyer? Or is he protecting some sinister connection he has with the case? One thing’s for certain – Dee-Dee is not happy when she finds out.
Nathan tells Joel that he suspects Sarah planted Lauren’s hair in his van. Could she be in danger if Joel is in an alliance with his client?
Recently, new pictures seemed to reveal Joel fleeing from an abandoned building. Could Nathan really be behind Lauren’s disappearance and informed his solicitor where her body is – or could Joel have put it there himself?
Roy is in deadly danger
Far-right thug Griff Reynolds (Michael Condron) – a former associate of Lauren Bolton’s father – is convinced that Roy murdered Lauren and he’s out for revenge. Terrifyingly, he’s also in Weatherfield prison and he soon targets Roy.
Returning from the prison library Roy is shocked to come face to face with Griff, who terrorised Coronation Street previously, grooming and manipulating Max Turner (Paddy Bever) and carrying out racist attacks against members of the community.
Pulling out a knife, Griff orders Roy to tell him what he did with Lauren’s body. Roy is of course unable to tell him any such thing, but his refusal to admit to murder only enrages Griff further. He presses the knife to Roy’s throat and tells him to say his last words.
Is Roy a goner?
Bobby and Carla are in deep trouble
Bobby Crawford (Jack Carroll) previously lied to the police in a misguided effort to get Roy out of prison. he told them that he remembered seeing an intruder wearing a balaclava and a dark coat at Lauren’s flat, hoping that the police might then focus on finding tis person and let Roy go free.
Carla was furious when she heard what he’d done but had no choice but to go along with it, which put her at odds with the always honest Roy.
DS Lisa Swain asks Carla why she fell out with Roy, and although Carla fobs her off Swain continues to be suspicious and goes to the prison to see if Roy will be any more forthcoming.
In the light of what he says, she arrests Bobby on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. She warns Carla – who could also be in trouble for supporting Bobby’s story – that the lie has done nothing to help Roy.
This is confirmed by Dee-Dee when she realises she’s been building Roy’s entire defence case on a lie. It looks like there’s no hope for Roy at all.
Bethany finds new information
Daniel (Rob Mallard) and Bethany call Nicky Wheatley (Kimberly Hart-Simpson) and beg her to put them in touch with Ellie, who was groomed as a teenager and might have information about Lauren.
Ellie agrees to meet and tells Bethany she had a client who showered her with gifts and became more of a boyfriend. He then turned nasty and threatened to kill her. This sounds very much like what happened to Lauren, and also to Bethany. She shows a picture of Nathan to Ellie. Will she confirm it’s the same man?
More pictures have shown Bethany and Dee-Dee stars Lucy Fallon and Channique Sterling-Brown filming together on location in the middle of a rain storm. Could they be following a lead to do with Lauren’s case?
Lauren’s necklace is found
Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan) has found a necklace, which she shows to her sister Ruby (Billie Naylor). Ruby points out that it doesn’t belong to Hope – but does it belong to Lauren?
Could this be the vital clue that’s been missing?
